Athletics and Doping

I see that Sebastian (Lord) Coe has been elected president of the International Association of Athletics Federations. Congratulations from me.

I see that he has said he wants to “lead from the front” on doping. Doping means, to me, athletes taking unauthorised substances to enhance their performance so that they win. Winning is what it is all about in athletics. Being last doesn’t work, you have to win.

Well I have a suggestion for you Lord Coe. If you really are determined to stamp out drugs in athletics how about announcing that anyone caught using drugs from the date of your appointment will be banned for life from athletics AND stripped of all the wins and medals during their career. It may show that you are determined to do as you say and it may serve as a warning to athletes that you really are determined to lead from the front.
